Andrew Essen is a Clinical Psychology Registrar who brings a warm, compassionate, and supportive approach to therapy.
Andrew recognizes the significant importance of thoroughly and accurately developing an understanding of his clients and the difficulties they may be experiencing. He is committed to flexibly adapting and tailoring evidence-based treatments to best fit the needs and contexts of his clients, ensuring that each client is provided with a personalised and considered approach to therapy.
Andrew works with adults and children across the lifespan in the following areas:
Andrew’s primary treatment approach is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), with treatment elements and components often integrated from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and Mindfulness-based treatments.
Andrew also provides Trauma-Focused CBT for PTSD and trauma-related difficulties.
During his clinical training, Andrew worked at the Centre for Emotional Health Clinic at Macquarie University, a world-leading research clinic specialising in the treatment and research of childhood anxiety. As part of this, Andrew trained in the well-renowned Cool Kids program, which he can facilitate either in groups or individually with clients.
In addition to his clinical therapy services, Andrew also offers psychometric assessment and testing for a variety of purposes. This includes identifying learning problems and giftedness.
Andrew currently sees clients both face-to-face and via telehealth, Monday – Friday.
