Anica Spatz is a highly regarded Psychologist, with many years of experience in delivering clinical interventions. She has a special interest in self-harm, psychotic disorders, bipolar disorders and adolescent depression. She also has a strong interest in psychometric testing and diagnosis of learning difficulties and ADHD. Anica’s interest areas include working with clients who may be self harming and deliberately causing pain or damage to their body without suicidal intent. This is usually a sign of high emotional distress and such behaviours can include
- cutting, burning, biting or scratching the skin
- picking at wounds or scabs so they don’t heal
- pulling out hair, punching or hitting the body
- taking harmful substances (such as poisons, or over-the-counter or prescription medications).
Anica is an empathic and dedicated professional with extensive clinical training in a number of gold standard therapeutic approaches, many of which can be tailored for problems such as including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Interpersonal Therapy (IPT).
Working together with her clients, Anica’s approach is collaborative, allowing her to select the best suited therapeutic intervention based on the scientific evidence and the individual needs of her clients. With a family of her own, Anica understands the pressures faced by families. She has worked extensively with adults, adolescents and children across a number of settings, including hospitals and community mental health services.
Anica is comfortable working with child, teenage and adult clients presenting with a wide range of psychological concerns, including:
- perinatal issues,
- ADD and ADHD
- bipolar disorder,
- personality disorders, including borderline personality disorder (BPD)
- psychotic disorders,
- substance use
- self harm including cutting, burning and suicidal ideation
- grief & loss issues.
In addition to her therapy, Anica provides psychometric testing for children, adults and adolescents. Such assessments include the WISC, WIAT and WPPSI, and can be used for intelligence testing, academic testing, and for diagnostic assistance in ADHD or learning difficulties.
Anica sees clients by appointment on Thursdays and Saturdays.
