Gold-Standard ADHD Assessments by Experienced Psychologists

Do you wonder if you have ADHD? You’re not alone. Many adults go through life feeling distracted, overwhelmed, or struggling with focus – only to later realize that ADHD could be the reason. At Mindworx Psychology, we offer comprehensive, gold-standard ADHD testing for adults, delivered by experienced ADHD psychologists with authentic lived experience.

Our assessments go beyond simple online quizzes. We take a holistic approach, considering factors like trauma, menopause, autism, anxiety, depression, and other conditions that can mimic or overlap with ADHD symptoms. One size does not fit all, and we work with you to get the answers and strategies that fit your life.

Common Challenges That Lead Adults to Seek an ADHD Assessment

Many adults who seek an ADHD evaluation do so because they are experiencing significant difficulties in one or more areas of their life. Some of the most common challenges include:

  • Struggling with consistency in jobs or careers, frequently changing roles, or leaving jobs due to difficulties with focus, boredom or organisation
  • A history of underachievement in school or work despite having potential
  • Difficulty managing everyday responsibilities, such as keeping up with household tasks, paying bills on time, or staying organised – this often appears at significant life stages, such as leaving home, or becoming a parent
  • Relationship challenges, often stemming from unfinished tasks, forgetfulness, or emotional reactivity
  • Meltdowns and outbursts that leave you feeling shame and dread
  • Frequently forgetting important details or feeling easily overwhelmed by minor frustrations
  • Chronic stress and anxiety related to struggling with responsibilities and unmet goals
  • Persistent feelings of frustration, guilt, or self-blame due to difficulties in daily life

Could It Be ADHD? Or Something Else?

Our Psychologists can help determine whether challenges are due to ADHD, another condition, or a combination of factors. While ADHD symptoms typically emerge in childhood, some individuals don’t experience significant difficulties until later in life.

For example, many people use their intelligence to develop coping strategies that mask their ADHD symptoms – only to find that these strategies become less effective in high school, university, or the workplace. Others may have grown up in a structured, supportive environment where parents helped manage their executive functioning demands, making ADHD challenges less apparent until they began living independently.

Others navigate life well, by overcontrolling the environment, until those strategies just don’t work anymore (hello parenthood!)

If these challenges sound familiar, an ADHD assessment could provide clarity and help you find the right strategies to move forward.

What is ADHD ?

How Do I Get an ADHD Test as an Adult?

  1. Book a Consultation with an ADHD Psychologist
Our ADHD assessments start with an initial consultation with an ADHD Psychologist to explore your symptoms, challenges, and history. Our assessments can be done in person at our rooms in Sydney’s Hills District, or online using secure video calls.
  2. Comprehensive Gold-Standard Testing
There is no single medical, physical, or genetic test for ADHD. A diagnostic evaluation involves gathering information from multiple sources. These sources include ADHD symptom checklists, standardised behaviour rating scales, a detailed history of past and current functioning, and information obtained from family members or significant others who know you well. For adults, it’s rare that we need to conduct tests of cognitive ability – but we can include these if needed – or if you wish to have them done to learn more about how your brain works compared to others. ADHD cannot be diagnosed accurately just from brief office observations or just by talking you. People often do not exhibit the symptoms of ADHD during a consultation, symptoms can change over time, and any diagnosis needs to include a thorough history of an individual’s life.
We use evidence-based tools to assess ADHD in adults, ensuring accuracy and reliability. Unlike simple self-report tests, we take the time to understand your unique brain.
  3. Personalised Feedback & Next Steps
One size doesn’t fit all. We provide clear, practical guidance – whether that’s strategies to improve focus and emotional regulation, or a detailed report if you need documentation for work, study, or medical referrals.

Do I Need an Expensive ADHD Report?

Our reports are written by our Psychologists based on their findings, not generated by a computer from a generic online quiz. Our recommendations take into account your current life, history, functioning and unique needs. Report writing is time consuming – and therefore can be expensive.

Not everyone needs a formal ADHD report. Many adults just want to know if they have ADHD, and if so, to have clarity and practical solutions to improve daily life. Our ADHD psychologists will guide you on the best option for your needs and your budget.

If you do require a report – for example, for workplace adjustments, university accommodations, or because you’d prefer to have everything clearly explained – we can provide one. We’ll give you a quote first: some diagnoses and reports are simple, some are complex – to avoid over charging, we don’t use a flat fee structure. Instead our Psychologist will quote once they have talked to you and have an understanding of your needs.

Our reports, just like our testing is designed to be useful, easy to understand, and practical for real-life applications.

Can You Prescribe ADHD Medication?

No, psychologists do not prescribe medication. If medication is your preferred treatment, you will need to see a psychiatrist for an assessment to determine whether medication is suitable for you.

Many of our clients see psychiatrists alongside working with us, as a combined approach can be beneficial. We can provide a detailed ADHD assessment report to help you better understand your needs and assist with treatment planning. A copy can be given to your Psychiatrist to support their assessment.
Whether or not medication is used, many adults find that a holistic approach – including practical strategies, therapy, coaching, and lifestyle changes – can significantly improve focus, motivation, and emotional well-being.
