Autism Assessments for Children & Teens

Expert, Neuro-Affirming Autism Testing & Support

Every child experiences the world in their own unique way. If your child is struggling with social interactions, sensory sensitivities, meltdowns, or managing change, you may be wondering if they could be autistic. An autism diagnosis can provide understanding, validation, and access to the right support to help them thrive.

At Mindworx Psychology, we offer comprehensive autism assessments for children and teens. Our team of experienced autism psychologists takes a neuro-affirming approach, focusing on strengths, not just challenges.

Whether you’re seeking clarity for your child, school support, or guidance for the future, we’re here to help.

Why Seek an Autism Assessment for Your Child?

Autistic children and teens often experience unique strengths and challenges in different areas. Our expert autism psychologists provide tailored therapy, coaching, and school advocacy to ensure your child gets the support they need.

Autism is a neurodevelopmental difference, not a disorder. Some children are diagnosed early in life, while others may fly under the radar – especially girls and those who mask their differences. If your child is struggling with social interactions, sensory sensitivities, or rigid routines, a formal autism diagnosis can help in many ways:

  • Understanding & Acceptance – A diagnosis can provide clarity and validation for your child and family.

  • Tailored Strategies – Learn how to support your child’s unique needs at home and school.

  • Access to Accommodations – A formal diagnosis can help secure school support, NDIS funding, and workplace adjustments.

  • Improved Wellbeing – With the right support, autistic children can thrive socially, emotionally, and academically.

Signs of Autism in Children & Teens

Every autistic child is unique, but some common signs include:

  • Difficulty with social interactions or making friends
  • Sensory sensitivities to noise, textures, or lights
  • Intense interests or a strong focus on specific topics
  • A preference for routines and difficulty with unexpected change
  • Challenges with understanding emotions and social cues
  • Feeling exhausted after masking or trying to fit in

If your child experiences some of these challenges, an autism assessment may provide the answers you’re looking for.

What Makes Our Autism Assessments Different?

Unlike online autism tests, which can be misleading or incomplete, our assessments are conducted by psychologists who specialise in neurodivergence.
We take a holistic approach, recognising that autism often overlaps with ADHD, anxiety, dyslexia, and other neurotypes – including giftedness.
That’s why our assessments are comprehensive, ensuring you get accurate, evidence-based answers.

Our Autism Testing Process

Our assessments are designed to be stress-free and supportive for both parents and children.

We offer comprehensive autism assessments for children and teens, including as standard, screens for ADHD and other forms of neurodivergence. In addition, we can offer spiky profile analysis and cognitive testing using gold-standard tools like the WISC (Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children) and WIAT (Wechsler Individual Achievement Test).

Our team of experienced autism psychologists takes a neuro-affirming approach, focusing on strengths, not just challenges.

They include:

  1. Parent Consultation – We begin by understanding your concerns, your child’s strengths, and any challenges.
  2. Comprehensive Autism Assessment – We use gold-standard tools, such as:
      • The MIGDAS-2 (a sensory-based, strengths-focused autism assessment)
      • The ADOS-2 (a structured play-based assessment)
      • Detailed developmental history and behavioural questionnaires
      • School liaison where appropriate
      • Collaborative care with other professionals (speech, OT, paediatricians)
  3. Feedback & Diagnosis – We provide a clear, in-depth report, including recommendations for home, school, and beyond.
  4. Ongoing Support – A diagnosis is just the beginning! We offer parent guidance, workshops, therapy, and school support strategies to help your child thrive.

We Are a Neuro-Affirming Practice

At Mindworx Psychology, we celebrate neurodiversity. We believe that autism is a difference, not a disorder, and we use strengths-based, supportive language throughout our assessments.

Our team includes autistic, AuDHD, and neurotypical psychologists, ensuring a deep understanding of the lived experience of neurodivergent individuals.

We avoid outdated or harmful terms like “Autism Spectrum Disorder” (ASD) or “high-functioning/low-functioning” and instead focus on affirming language that respects the uniqueness of every child.
