Madeleine Govender, Clinical Psychology Registrar

Madeleine Govender, Clinical Psychology Registrar

Madeleine is a Clinical Psychology Registrar with a strong focus on comprehensive psychological assessment and evidence-based therapy for children, adolescents, and adults. In the final stages of her Clinical Psychology Registrar program, Madeleine is passionate about neurodevelopmental and cognitive assessment work, and brings a thoughtful, structured, and neuroaffirming approach to every evaluation.

With experience across private practice, government, non-for-profit settings, and multidisciplinary teams, Madeleine has developed a well-rounded and confident assessment skillset. She works closely with families, schools, universities, and other health professionals to ensure assessment findings are clear, meaningful, and practically useful.

Psychological Assessments

Assessment work is a central part of Madeleine’s practice. She provides comprehensive evaluations for:

  • Autism
  • ADHD
  • Cognitive functioning
  • Learning and academic difficulties

Madeleine understands that families and individuals often seek assessment during periods of uncertainty or stress. She aims to make the process clear, supportive, and empowering from the very first appointment. Importantly, Madeleine adopts a neuroaffirming lens, recognising neurodiversity as a difference rather than a deficit. She works to ensure assessment feedback highlights strengths alongside challenges.

Her assessment approach is thorough and collaborative. She takes time to gather a detailed developmental and psychosocial history, integrate multi-source information, and provide feedback in a way that is accessible and practical. Reports are structured, evidence-based, and designed to guide next steps – whether that involves school accommodations, workplace adjustments, therapeutic support, or further medical input.

Alongside her assessment work, Madeleine provides therapy for a wide range of emotional and mental health concerns. She supports children, adolescents, and adults experiencing anxiety, emotional regulation difficulties, PTSD, behavioural concerns, neurodevelopmental differences, low mood, self-esteem difficulties, trauma, self-harm and suicidal ideation. She focuses on building emotional regulation skills, resilience, and self-understanding.

Madeleine has a special interest in working with neurodivergent individuals and people from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds. Her work is culturally sensitive, strengths-based, and respectful of each individual’s unique profile.

Outside of work, Madeleine enjoys spending time by the water, dancing, and playing with her dog, Oscar.
